York is a lively, bustling city with a range of entertainment, events and attractions.  Famed for its Roman origins and Viking heritage, York’s stunning historical past is easily accessible on foot, starting from the area surrounding the magnificent York Minster.   As well as its ancient historical heritage, more recent times are celebrated in the National Railway and Yorkshire Air Museum along with many other attractions. 

 

York offers some of most distinctive, specialist and stylish shopping in the UK, from the medieval Shambles to modern shopping malls.  The city is packed with unusual independent shops as well as the latest in fashion and design.   

Located just outside the York outer ring road are the McArthur Glenn designer outlet with over 100 stores, offering a wide range of choice.  The Monks Cross shopping centre is just inside the York outer ring road.  These are both only a short drive from the centre, with plenty of bus services. 

York has been voted the most haunted ancient city in Europe.  In the evening, you can see groups of visitors attracted by the popular ghost hunting tours.  Other evening attractions include the Theatre Royal and Grand Opera House, cinemas and night clubs.

Private car parks are also operated at a number of locations throughout the city. Jaipur Spice Restaurant on Haxby Road runs a car park convenient for the centre. Open 7 days a week costing £4 for the day. There are no height restrictions so it is also possible to park motor caravans here.
